Hey Gang - Kinda crazy over here right now and I'm still in the throws of hosting/entertaining family for the holidays. The below video was too funny not to post and the Kaskade remix of JT is for the ladies... enjoy, and I should be back soon with more of the goods...
this song is utterly rediculous... can be annoying at times but irresistible the next minute. I was driving home from a day up in Tahoe and was completely spaced out on the road when the crazy synths build up snapped me out of it and took over my body
RCRD LBL's sums it up pretty nicely here: the synths are ludicrous, helter-skelter synths that build to a point where they sound like they're about to collapse off the side of a building with vertigo, before woozily climbing back down. You hear them a lot, but that's understandable, as they're essentially as close as anyone's ever gonna get to turning drug anxiety into sound.
On the eve of Christmas, I was planning on throwing together a couple of gems for everyone and label the post Stocking Stuffers. I had to sideline that idea when I finally was able to find enough information about Juju, an instrumentalist/beatmaker from Holland with the incredibly gorgeous track that incorporates elements of Claude Debussy's Clair De Lune
Juju - The Moonlight
With some more digging, I learned that Juju is offering instrumental album for here at his record label's bandcamp. You can preview/stream below and click on link to get free copy. Highly encouraged listening. Lush arrangements steeped in a classical background coupled with trip hop/DJ shadowesque beats. Merry Christmas Kids!
Bon Iver is so good, but usually I'm looking for something with a little more bite. Enter Das Kapital, the communist dj from South Africa with his remix of Skinny Love.
I enjoy how RCRDLB never fails to suprise with some nice little gems.. the only thing is sifting through all of it to find the tracks that I like. here's a quick compilation of slightly hairier electronic indie music that I'm vibin on right now.
Phase One - Being with You (Soul For Real Cover)
Sun Airway - Oh, Naoko (Houses Remix)
Thunderball - Rio Mescalito (Mexicans With Guns Remix)
This Pacific! remix is incredible... i'm almost at a loss of words. Its like the song automatically makes you feel cool while listening to it... if this song was part of your soundtrack of life, you would dust this puppy off for special moments when you feel like you just totally owned it...
Pacific! is the sun-kissed, blissed-out creation of Bjorn Synneby and Daniel Hogberg – two childhood friends Sweden. Synneby and Hogberg have been working on their delicately crafted pop-not-pop songs with a distinct sound that seems to hark back and look forward simultaneously. West-Coast, Baroque, Daft Punk, Beach Boys – you could mention any one of these in the same breath, yet Pacific!’s sound remains unmistakably their own.
The above rmx is by the dude that runs the label they hang their hat on (vulture records aka alan braxe) - insanely good stuff! oh wait, the remix below is insanely good too! This time Pacific! is remixing the UK band Kyte...
bonus: next one kinda brings you back to the roller rink era... I can see Savannah rollering around in her garage to this one imagining awesomeness Alphabeat - DJ (Madeon Remix) by Madeon
This one takes some time... give it a little room and let this one build. Has some nice piano interludes, some spacey vocals reminiscent of AIR, maybe a few scitars... its builds and stalls and builds and stalls until around minute for and you can't contain it any more...
this tune will grow onto you through a slow burn until you realize its absolutely stunning and youre having an out of body experience...My personal fav is the Ramadanman refix which adds a little more house step and the Normski remix is deece & free.
Do I have a treat for the world today. These dudes are a production/dj/remix duo that pretty much slather everything they touch with incredible lounge. Really good stuff... seriously. None of these songs are new but have all been sprinkled through my Mudgemix Series over the last few years...
The Best of Elliott Smith (Mixed by Neoteric: www.djneoteric.com)
As DJs, many times we put together sets for others. This time I wanted to put something together for myself, for whenever the mood happened to hit. This isnt a DJ mix in the traditional sense, it flows more like a radio show or concert. These songs have been the soundtrack to some memorable times in my life, and I wanted to compile this collection for my own listening, but I know the thousands of fans of the late Elliott Smith will appreciate this too. I added some dialogue and interview clips, and tried to find a good flow to mix, and group similar songs together by mood and theme. The music might seem emo and moody to some, but that wasnt what drew me to it. The melodies caught me, and have stayed stuck in my head for years. Melody was kind of Elliotts thing, and he often cites the Beatles as one of his main influences. I'm quite aware his music is sometimes the soundtrack of the downtrodden, and those struggling with life, and all its temptations, but it's also for the music lovers, such as myself who appreciate his undeniable creativity and songwriting. I don't think I've ever heard an artist who could express the extremes of happiness and sadness, both so well.
Rest In Peace Elliott Smith.

Gotta hand it to the Swedes... Just listened to Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit's cover of Fever Ray's When I Grow Up and was really stoked... see for yourself.
And if you're feeling more adventourous, below is Fever Ray's original (and weird, but it fits well with her style) video to accompany. Fever Ray is Karin Dreijer Andersson, one half of the Knife, who is another great act that was originally brought to my attention after discovering another Swedish/Argentine Folk gem by Jose Gonzalez, who did an incredible cover of the Knife's song Heartbeats.
Keljet is blowing my mind right now... You might remember them from this post... which, if you didn't give it a chance the first time, I would encourage you to slap yourself until you snap out of it...
This next song is an absolute beast, and provided for free by Keljet himself
didn't have much time to dig for some additonal info on this unsigned act from the Netherlands, but hopefully the songs speak for themselves. Enjoy, and show Keljet some love at their facebook page or myspace page
Been mia due to the holidays and chewing on some new tunes... I' should have some new posts coming shortly. In the mean time, enjoy this fun one by Health
Rainbows of Death huh?!?! Electronic acts continue to get weirder and weirder... Is it some sort of marketing formula or is is it just weirdbeard style? Listen to this gem and you be the judge... Fortunately, I did all the heavy lifting and spared you from all the creepy stuff that comes up when you google the phrase... including conspiracy theories or death metal websites. ThIS Rainbow of Death is from Aussieland and they do have a Facebook page, which describes the duo as a black guy and a white guy plus a couple of synths creating Nu Disco & House... good work ROB.
Back in my burgeoning electronic phase, I stumbled across these guys and became instantly hooked... Justice had come out with their catchy D.A.N.C.E. track and hard core electronic music was reaching its tipping point... BB somehow took it to the next level and I ingeniously was able to convince Savannah to go with me to a BB concert with Felix Cartel as the opener and LA Riots at the Roxy
Next up is straigh Bloody FIRE! pure electro party rager circa 2008 The Bloody Beetroots - Butter (EP Version) but sometimes its more fun to watch a video of epic surf footage and epic electro party jams... wait for the BB goodness to kick in around 1:06min
This one is a newbie, but a goodie... The Bloody Beetroots, after a lot of initial success, got lost in the burgeoning genre and spent a lot of their time creating rowdy garbage... so its nice to hear a new track of theirs reminiscent of their original material. The Chemical Brothers - Dissolve (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
Gonna try something a little different this time. I'm going to put some of the more indie alternative tracks in the front, hoping that ppl won't immediately get turned off by my weirder tastes...
Cold War Kids - Louder than ever
Voxhaul Broadcast - Leaving on the 5th (Jump Clubb remix) --- reminiscent of a Miike Snow production. Totally enjoyable
Has some sort of distorted gospel soul BRMC meets Black Keys... grimy funky pop music featuring Wale as well as hand claps and infectious breaks. Never thought I would be saying this, but good work Samantha Ronson...?!!?
White Buffalo - Oh Darlin, What have I done - Wiskey tavern folk/rock for those who aren't familiarThis brings me back to the TLand days...
Tame Impala (Pilooki Remix)
sounds a little Feisty... like it might end up on an ipod commercial - remixed by RAC(remix artist collective) who often times add interesting elements to songs without completely destroying the original integrity - good work guys...
Sunday Girl vs Rusko - Hey Stop - posted for Nick
Claire Maguire - Aint Nobody (Coyote Remix) - Whoa... I feel like I'm getting transported back to a Fleetwood Mac concert
Dels - Trumpalump (Joe Goddard Remix) - JG is the frontman for Hot Chip... so you know its gonna be good.
Das Racist - I'm Up on That --- These guys are awesome... clever, funny, witty and fresh. Atmosphere raps meets Beck inspired spoken word by Middle Eastern dudes
MJ? JT? nope... Penguin Prison with a nice poppy gem. His sound should eventually get some radio play...
How many artists can you squeeze into one track? I'm not a fan of spankrock or amanda blank... but fortunately Shazam rescues this one with some grooved out retro piano synths and overall laid back interpretation.
again.. not that stoked on spankrock... but when he's getting remixed by Todd Edwards, who chops, twists and distorts everything... I love it.
Annorak - Try Me (Jupiter Remix) - this can transform your bedroom into the island beach bar or at least add a little bit pep to your lovelorn step.
Chemical Brothers - Dissolve (the Bloody Beetroots remix) - These guys absolutely destroy shiz... and they don't hold back on this one.
UK Grime Meets UK MC meets UK Dubstep... heavy... sounds like a Dizzy wannabe behind the mic. whatevs... I like it
Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal (ft Anthony Hegarty)(Blixaboy Futurna Freemix) --- ambient atmospheric reminiscent of a radiohead track
Blixaboy - New Age Steppa --- ambient haunting gorillaz styled dub - really good and weird!
interesting... not for the faint of heart
pure techno weirdbeardness with the electronic music Godfathers, Simian Mobile Disco... seriously, go buy their Attack Destroy Sustain Release and you will not regret (don't listing to this song as a point of reference) - Strap into your electric chair and let this one fry your brain (jay raymond, i think you'll like this one...)
Got a lot of stuff going on right now... chewing through a new round of music and should have some good posts up in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy these nutritous vids of weirdos using veggies to make mediocre music...
This next one sounds almost like the Godfather's theme song
First off... Temper Trap's Conditions is a great album. There is also a Conditions Remixed, which takes to album to a whole nother level after commissioning other artists to roll up their sleeves, get dirty and remix the orginal songs. Noteworthy is Kings of Convenience's album Versus, which did the same thing albeit nine years ago (and still incredible today)
As a starter, we'll begin with the original track to give everyone a foundation. For the indie purists out there, the original may be preferable. Its a great track but a little too slow for my alrady acclimated to crazy shiz musical brain.
Next up is the same track, this time under the helm of Rusko, who instinctually set the mood for a little sensual dance moves (I imagine Nick & Miller both working a dimly lit room full of girls with their dance moves((noteworthy is chromeo's music video for Night by Night doing exactly that - Chromeo - Night by Night)<-- highly recommended viewing))
Lastly, and what I really want to share with all of you, is the same song remixed by an artist who needs a little more love, Big City Love Affair. By not taking quite so much artistic liberty allows BCLA to really draw on what really makes the song in the first place. Preserving the intimacy, a little less production and a little more step to keep the listener interested.
Bonus: another TT track remixed by Keljet, who sucessfully captains this spaceship into a galaxy of rythmic house, groovy guitar riffz and infectious house... loving it.
This song just came on my ipod and I had a flashback to Malibu beach parties and awesome times in Santa Monica circa 08-09, which in turn inspired this impromtu post...Its hard to explain how good this song is and I'm not feeling that creative right now. Just trust me... Miami Horror started off remixing songs and have since graduated to making their own infectious Austrailian electronic pop...
What makes a scene? Today, the internet seems to break all geographical barriers, not making it hard for anybody with a laptop to duplicate what they heard on a website. So does that mean we are left with a totally homogeneous sound that lacks variety? Luckily, I think that locale still determines the type of style and sound. Here are a few quick examples
Erick Rincon is a teenager making this hyped up cumbia called 3ball (tribal). This stuff, I assume, goes nuts at underage house parties in his hometown of Monterey, Mexico.
Machine gun ragga or dirty arab garage is maybe the best way to describe this magic.
