What makes a scene? Today, the internet seems to break all geographical barriers, not making it hard for anybody with a laptop to duplicate what they heard on a website. So does that mean we are left with a totally homogeneous sound that lacks variety? Luckily, I think that locale still determines the type of style and sound. Here are a few quick examples
Erick Rincon is a teenager making this hyped up cumbia called 3ball (tribal). This stuff, I assume, goes nuts at underage house parties in his hometown of Monterey, Mexico.
Machine gun ragga or dirty arab garage is maybe the best way to describe this magic.
I love spaced out music but often have a hard time finding the right spot for them in a playlist or mixtape... They usually surface all of the sudden and totally kills my buzz... whats that you say? you know the feeling?!!?
That's why i created a little playlist specifically for these awesome (seriously... they're awesome) tracks. Perfect for long drives, contemplation, day dreams, naps, journaling, reading?, studying, sophisticated parties...
suggested consumption: download all of them, put them on a cd, listen to ever track fully at least 3 times (don't skip) to allow full immersion. Then listen one more time, write me a love letter on facebook or below, and then support the artists.
Fun track and great video to accompany... wes anderson aesthetic with a little be of humor and a pinch of entertainment... worth a small break at some point in your day.
all tracks avail for free guilt free downloads compliments of RCRDBLB... not always the most reliable source for good music, but as you can see below, provide enough good to keep me coming back. I did all the heavy lifting for you... enjoy!
Chilean born Matias Aguayo now living between Buenos Aires and Paris, djing, making music, performing concerts, signed to the german label Kompakt. Producing ambient rythmic deep grooves that are also poppy and somewhat seductive(its the south american argentine influence...)
typically I lead off my Friday posts with some sort of Party James for everyone to groove to over the weekend... Sorry to let all my followers down, but we're taking a slightly different angle on this friday post, cause I'm going to do a little fly fishing this evening! Instead of my usual routine of finding the most radical tunes and getting super pumped up for my suburban partying, I have sourced a couple upbeat folky treasures for your weekend... I'm moving to the country!
Download: Junip - Without You - Jose Gonzales creation: Folk and Ambient Electronic vibes... Great stuff - Look for the funky Tobacco inspired break at 2:42min ...
I can't help it but share with you all... Radiolab is the most interesting radio program I've ever encountered, is like mr Toad's wild ride through philosphy and science in an accessible and light-hearted manner... perfectly packaged presented with a distinctive audio production style.
It's like crack for your intellect... hour-long episodes with stories, interviews, and thought experiments approaching broad topics from mulitple angles. The knowlege you learn and stories you hear are seared into your brain out of pure interest and its impossible to forget. really fascinating stuff.
Insanely good content for those that are interested...
Oh yeah, all of their content is available for free through their Itunes podcast channel.
Think modern day inverse of the White Stripes with better looking people ... this all feels a little too good to be true... I have a feeling that some marketing guru was behind this.
I'm not sure if I ever thanked you, Cut Copy, for this mixtape released in early 2008 or anything else you have blessed the world with, but better late than never... I came across this a few years ago and i believe its responsible for tipping the scales when it comes to my love for electronically infused music. i haven't come across a mixtape that is better than this. you will not regret...

Holy shizzzz do I have a special treat for the blogosphere today... a good friend of mine bringing some straight CUMBIA fire from the electronic trenches of Malibu. This beast of of mix will transport you to the sweatiest clubs in Latin America... IF you enjoyed this as much as I did, show White Light some love!
DeerHunter has been owning my playlists right now. Their new cd came out late september and created quite a stir in the blogosphere with their "helicopter". some of you might be aware of the lead singer's side project, Atlas Sound...
A lush interpretation of an already perfect jam...
starting off reeeaaaally mellow, maybe we'll work up to something...? Just give it a moment to work its magic, let the sidechain compression (reverbesk) kick build and BOOOOMM! Something completely takes over your ears with this lush tropical jam that combos perfectly with DH's silky smooth vocals.
A little overwhelming for the uninitiated... Its ok. Check out the original and you'll find your place...
DeerHunter has been owning my playlists right now. Revival is not nearly as immediately catchy as Helicopter, but definately worth the download and multiple listens...
